Originally from Scottsdale, Arizona, Emily Jean "Emma" Stone was born on November 6, 1988, to Krista Jean Stone (née Yeager), a housewife, and Jeffrey Charles "Jeff" Stone, the founder and CEO of a construction firm. She is descended from Swedish, German, and British Isles ancestors. Stone started acting as a kid as a member of the Valley Youth Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona, where she had her stage debut in a performance of Kenneth Grahame's . Stone went on to star in a number of other productions, including "The Wizard of Oz." She continued to perform in several shows throughout her early adolescence until, at the age of fifteen, she made the decision that she wanted to pursue acting as a vocation.
In accordance with the official narrative, she created a PowerPoint presentation, which was inspired by Madonna's "Hollywood" and was dubbed "Project Hollywood," in an effort to convince her parents to allow her to drop out of school and go to Los Angeles. She had her first major television job when she was cast as Laurie Partridge in the VH1 talent/reality program In Search of the Partridge Family (2004), which led to a number of modest television parts in the following years. Her feature film début came as Jules in Superbad (2007), and following a run of critically acclaimed performances, her main part as Olive in Easy A (2010) cemented her status as a rising Hollywood star.
